Uitchecken

Je bent aangekomen na een vliegreis. Tijd om je spullen te verzamelen. Meestal moet je nog even wachten voor je het vliegtuig kan verlaten. Eerst moet het vliegtuig goed geparkeerd staan, en de bekende witte slurf waar je doorheen gaat of de trap waar je afloopt, nog tegen het toestel gezet worden. Daarna moet je nog wachten op de passagiers die voor je zijn. In de kleinere toestellen kan je ook achterin eruit. Bij de grote toestellen niet. Daar moet de catering bij. Dat is de vrachtwagen met eten en drinken. Eenmaal in de aankomsthal moet je nog langs de paspoort controle en je bagage ophalen. Als je buiten de Europa reist moet je nog door de security. Die controleren je gegevens. Meestal als je aankomt moet je nog in de rij staan. Dat kan wel een uur duren. En dat voor 5 minuten controle. 

Als je een transfer hebt dan ga je naar de security en hoef je je bagage niet op te halen. Aan de barcode die bij de incheckbalie om je koffer is gedaan, kan het systeem je koffer naar de juiste band brengen voor je vlucht naar waar je heen gaat. Een transfer betekend overstap. Je gaat dus van het ene vliegtuig naar het andere vliegtuig. Schiphol is een van de grootste als het gaat om transfers. Ruim 1/3 van alle reizigers stappen over om door te reizen.

conclusie: het duurt even voor je het vliegveld weer uit gaat. Het uitchecken kan in veel gevallen lang duren. Je word gecontroleerd op bagage en gevens en je visum. Zo’n reis is enorm vermoeiend. Je weet dat als je uitstapt van een vliegtuig dat je er echt bijna bent.

Checking out

You have arrived after a flight. Time to collect your things. Usually you have to wait a while before you can leave the plane. After that you still have to wait for the passengers ahead of you. In the smaller aircraft you can also get out in the back. Not on the big devices. That includes catering. That's the food and drink truck. Once in the arrivals hall, you still have to go through passport control and collect your luggage. If you travel outside of Europe you still have to go through security. They check your data. Usually when you arrive you still have to queue. That can take up to an hour. And that for 5 minutes of control.

If you have a transfer, you go to security and you do not have to collect your luggage. Using the barcode placed on your bag at the check-in desk, the system can move your bag to the correct belt for your flight to wherever you are going. A transfer means transfer. So you go from one plane to another plane. Schiphol is one of the largest when it comes to transfers. More than 1/3 of all travelers transfer to continue their journey.

conclusion: it takes a while before you leave the airport. Checking out can take a long time in many cases. You will be checked for luggage and data and your visa. Such a journey is very tiring. You know when you get off a plane that you're almost there.
