Amerika

Het land van Broadway, Hollywood, Route66, Coca Cola, gele taxi's en fastfood. Ik ben er al een paar keer geweest en alles daar is groot. Zelfs het eten daar is groot. Wat hier medium is, is daar small. Het land van de spectaculaire films. Echt een land om eens te bezoeken. Veel plezier!

Amerika: Algemene tips. 🇳🇱

Wow je gaat naar America. Reizen naar dit continent vergt goede voorbereidingen. Hier wat algemene tips.

  • Betalen: In Europa betalen we met de euro. In Amerika betalen ze met de Amerikaanse dollar. Het brief geld is duidelijk. Maar je moet even goed opletten met muntgeld. Soms staat het er niet duidelijk op wat de waarde is van het muntje.
  • Fooi: Ga je lekker wat eten in een restaurant of drinken in een café. Dan moet je verplicht fooi geven. De medewerkers leven van het fooi dat ze krijgen. Zij worden letterlijk uitbetaalt door de klant.
  • ESTA: Je moet online een ESTA aanvragen om Amerika in te mogen. Zij willen exact weten wie het land binnenkomt. Let op: Er zitten kosten aan verbonden.
  • Douaneformulier: Sommige maatschappijen vragen je dit vooraf online in te vullen. De douane controleert hiermee wat je in Amerika doet, bagage die je mee neemt en je doel van de reis. 
  • Visum: Ga je werken of studeren in Amerika? Dan moet je een Visum aanvragen. Het is niet toegestaan om dit met een ESTA te doen. 
  • Reisverzekering: Sluit een goede reisverzekering af. Mocht er wat gebeuren kom je niet voor onverwachtse kosten te staan. Je bent op reis om te genieten.
  • Kleurcode: Elk land word aangegeven met een kleurcode. Groen: Alles is veilig. Geel: Er is een kleine risico op gevaar. Oranje: Er gelden maatregelen. Ga er alleen heen als het echt moet. Rood: Het is te gevaarlijk om hier naar toe te gaan.
  • Documenten: check alles nog eens een keer. Is alles bevestigd? Niks dubbel gepland?

De prijzen naar Amerika worden als erg duur beschouwt. Je zit al gauw boven de €5000.

Wow, you're going to America. Traveling to this continent requires good preparation. Here are some general tips.

  • Payment: In Europe we pay with the euro. In America they pay with the American dollar. The banknotes are clear. But you have to pay close attention with coins. Sometimes it is not clear what the value of the coin is.
  • Tip: Are you going to eat something nice in a restaurant or drink in a café? Then you are obliged to give a tip. The employees live off the tips they receive. They are literally paid by the customer.
  • ESTA: You have to apply for an ESTA online to be allowed into America. They want to know exactly who is entering the country. Please note: There are costs involved. 
  • Customs form: Some companies ask you to fill this out online in advance. The customs check what you are doing in America, the luggage you are taking with you and the purpose of your trip.
  • Visa: Are you going to work or study in America? Then you have to apply for a visa. It is not allowed to do this with an ESTA.
  • Travel insurance: Take out good travel insurance. If somethinghappens, you will not be faced with unexpected costs. You are traveling to enjoy yourself.
  • Color code: Each country is indicated with a color code. Green: Everything is safe. Yellow: There is a small risk of danger. Orange: Measures are in place. Only go there if you really have to. Red: It is too dangerous to go there.
  • Documents: check everything again. Has everything been confirmed? Nothing double planned?

Prices to America are considered very expensive. You are quickly above €5000.
