Hoe werkt een vliegveld

Je hebt je reis bepaalt en vandaag ga je naar het vliegveld. Heb je je ooit wel is afgevraagd wat er allemaal gebeurt? Vandaag neem ik je even mee. Een vliegveld is veel complexer dan je denkt. Achter de schermen werken ontzettend veel mensen om jouw van A naar B te krijgen. Dat begint bij de incheck balie, waarbij een medewerker je gegevens controleert een je een boarding pas geeft. Hij of zij legt uit naar welke gate je moet, en hoe laat je daar verwacht word. Ook staat jouw stoel nummer en je vertrek en aankomst tijd op bestemming erop. Dan ga je door de douane of terwijl de security. Daar word je handbagage gecontroleerd op de inhoud. Soms pikken ze mensen uit de rij om even extra te controleren. Dat is meestal een willekeurig persoon. Daarna ga je naar je gate. Meestal heb je nog tijd over, dus ga je nog even naar een winkel. Eten en drinken of iets anders om de vlucht door te komen.  Dan is het tijd om te boarden, Medewerkers checken je in om in te stappen in een duur vliegtuig. Terwijl er word ingestapt zetten de piloten de route in de boordcomputer (FMS: Flight Management System). Dat is een tomtom maar dan voor het vliegtuig. Ondertussen is het cabine personeel bezig met mensen te begeleiden naar hun stoel die op de boarding pas staat. 

Als je nu denkt nou dat was het wel, dan heb je het mis. Naast de piloten en de stewardessen zijn er mensen die het vliegverkeer regelen. Dat heet de Air Traffic Controller. Die communiceren de gehele vlucht met elkaar. Dan heb je nog mensen die over de gate planning gaan, over het bus vervoer van de terminal naar de parkeer plek van het vliegtuig, en weer terug naar de terminal, dan heb je de mensen die de afhandeling doet van een vliegtuig. Dat is onder ander bagage uit en inladen, tanken, schoon water bijvullen, wc's legen, schoonmaken, catering aanvullen, en de cabine klaar maken voor passagiers.

Conclusie: een vliegveld is veel complexer dan je denkt. Echt alles om jouw naar je bestemming te krijgen. Het maakt niet uit waar je heen gaat, deze mensen zorgen ervoor dat je op je bestemming komt. en besef even dat er op schiphol per dag zo'n 1100 vluchten per dag in en uit gaat. 

How does an airport work

You have determined your journey and today you are going to the airport. Have you ever wondered what's going on? Today I'm taking you with me. An airport is much more complex than you think. A lot of people work behind the scenes to get you from A to B. That starts at the check-in desk, where an employee checks your details and gives you a boarding pass. He or she will explain which gate you need to go to and what time you are expected there. It also states your seat number and your departure and arrival time at your destination. Then you go through customs or while security. There your hand luggage will be checked for the contents. Sometimes they pick people out of the line to double check. That is usually a random person. Then you go to your gate. Usually you still have time left, so you go to a store. Food and drink or something else to get through the flight. Then it's time to board, Employees check you in to board an expensive plane. While boarding, the pilots enter the route into the on-board computer (FMS: Flight Management System). That's a tomtom but for the plane. Meanwhile, the cabin crew is busy guiding people to their seat that is on the boarding pass.

If you think now that it was, then you are wrong. In addition to the pilots and flight attendants, there are people who regulate air traffic. That's called the Air Traffic Controller. They communicate with each other throughout the flight. Then you have people who are responsible for gate planning, bus transport from the terminal to the aircraft parking area, and back to the terminal, then you have the people who handle the aircraft. This includes unloading and loading luggage, refueling, refilling clean water, emptying toilets, cleaning, replenishing catering, and preparing the cabin for passengers.

Conclusion: an airport is much more complex than you think. Really everything to get you to your destination. No matter where you go, these people will get you to your destination. and realize for a moment that at Schiphol about 1100 flights a day go in and out.
