Seizoenen en de evenaar

Je staat er misschien niet bij stil. Maar wist je dat de seizoenen boven de evenaar anders is dan onder de evenaar. Ja je leest het goed. Als het hier lente is, dan is het onder de evenaar herfst. En als het hier winter is, is het onder de evenaar zomer. Plan jij je vakantie bijvoorbeeld naar Kaapstad. En ga je dat in de zomer doen, dan moet je winterkleding gaan inpakken. Want Kaapstad ligt onder de evenaar en is het dus winter. Ga jij met de jaarwisseling naar Kaapstad dan kan je je zomerkleding aantrekken want oud en nieuw en kerst vieren zij in de zomer. Misschien een gek idee. Maar wel goed om te weten. 

conclusie: Reis je naar een bestemming onder de evenaar. Tel dan even 2 seizoenen vooruit. Is het hier zomer, dan is het onder de evenaar winter. Verkeerde kleding dragen op bestemming is niet handig. Bereid je daarom goed voor. 

Seasons and the equator

You may not think about it. But did you know that the seasons above the equator are different than below the equator? Yes, you read that right. When it is spring here, it is autumn below the equator. And when it is winter here, it is summer below the equator. For example, are you planning your holiday to Cape Town? And if you are going to do that in the summer, you will have to pack winter clothes. Because Cape Town is below the equator and it is therefore winter. If you are going to Cape Town for New Year's Eve, you can wear your summer clothes because they celebrate New Year's Eve and Christmas in the summer. Maybe a crazy idea. But good to know.

conclusion: Are you travelling to a destination below the equator? Then count forward 2 seasons. If it is summer here, it is winter below the equator. Wearing the wrong clothing at your destination is not a good idea. So prepare well.
